ABOUT OUR LADY

Coquina

The Boat Barn that you build will become the home of our beloved wooden sailboat, Coquina. She is in need of a complete refitting, which is not possible if she stays exposed to our Maine winters. Coquina was built in 1962 from the Lotus Class design of Sparkman & Stephens. This was the last design to be built by hand from wood. After that, they were factory built from fiberglass. She is 28’6″ long, 8′ beam, 5 ton displacement, 3900lb lead keel, Mahogany planked on Yakal (asian wood like oak) frames, with all bronze running gear. Her Spruce mast is 35’ tall, and she carries 390 sq. ft. of sail. She is in the Coast Guard registry. We adopted Coquina in 2004 from a family that was too busy to use and maintain her. During the workshop I hope to arrange a visit to her in temporary storage for any that would like. Coquina is auxiliary powered by a Yanmar 2gm20f fresh-water cooled 16hp diesel engine, bronze propeller shaft and 3-blade bronze propeller.

ABOUT THE LOCATION

Rockland, Maine

Rockland is one of Maine’s most vibrant coastal communities and a fitting setting for a timber framing workshop. Nestled on Penobscot Bay, the town is known for its working waterfront, rich maritime heritage, fresh seafood, art galleries, and welcoming downtown. Home to The Apprenticeshop—a nationally recognized school dedicated to preserving the craft of traditional wooden boatbuilding—Rockland has a long tradition of hands-on craftsmanship and learning. After a day of timber framing, explore local restaurants, stroll the harbor, or simply enjoy the beauty of Maine’s rugged coastline.
